4/20/24 - Playmakers Summer Show Auditions
The Playmakers will be producing “Glorious!”-- a comedy by Peter Quilter, July 21 through August 4, 2024. It is based on the life of Florence Foster Jenkins, the real life New York heiress and socialite who wanted to be a great operatic diva despite having one of the worst singing voices in history. Nancy Flowers has been pre-cast as the lead because the actor must be a good singer in order to play a character who sings badly. The play is not a musical. Rather it is a comedy with music. Only the lead character sings.
There will be auditions for the other characters in this fun play on Saturday, April 20th at 1:00 at the Playmakers’ Theatre, 121 W. 3rd Street. They are: Cosme McMoon, Florence’s new accompanist. This character doesn’t have to play the piano, but should have good acting skills like other characters. His age can be in the 20s to 40s. St.Clair Byfield is Florence’s English boyfriend so a nice British accent is needed; his age-- in 60s or 70s. We can train the British accent. Dorothy, Mrs. Jenkins’ best friend, can be in her 60s or early 70s. Maria, Florence’s Mexican cook and housemaid is in her 30s-40s (must speak language of that country or mimic it well). The last character is Mrs. Verrinder-Gedge, an American lady in late middle age (very small part).
The Playmakers’ auditions are very casual so new-comers don’t need to be anxious. If the dates of “Glorious!” and its almost three-month rehearsal schedule are not practical for you due to many other scheduled activities, please attend this audition and treat it as a general audition for other productions in the future. Rehearsal schedules are set by the cast once the play is cast. Normally they are two evenings a week, plus at least one afternoon on the weekend or as needed. The final weeks before opening will have more rehearsals as the play must be ready to perform with all lights, sound, and costumes.
The Playmakers welcome those who prefer to work on design or technical aspects of any production. People with these interests and skills are greatly needed. Please stop by the auditions and introduce yourself.
For more information on the play, please leave a message at The Playmakers, 918 786 8950 or email us at groveplaymakers@yahoo.com.
